The Stillwater Project
The Stillwater Project (Double DVD) is the brainchild of veteran flatland skimboarders Kyle Lynch (KYDA owner and former editor of Tydle Magazine), Dane Clark (KYDA) and Brian Kniveton (ISM) with the objective of showcasing the best flatland riders on the west coast to a worldwide audience. Over the 2010 season, both of these filmmakers will be documenting not only the sport and the culture that surrounds it but will also be working completely independent of one another. The goal being the creation of two completely different feature films, KYDA’S Insufficient Funds and ISM’s ITEM NUMBER NINE.
KYDA’S Insufficient Funds (B.C. and Washington)
Lynch and Clark have dreamt about making a flatland skim film for years but for whatever reason one thing or another has gotten in there way, no longer is this the case. Insufficient funds will be KYDA PRODUCTIONS first feature film, and they have lofty ideas and an ambitious list of British Columbian beaches on their hit list. With the mantra of getting the best footage of riders regardless of industry affiliations you can expect the guys at KYDA to bring a lot of steeze and a unique perspective to a sport they grew up in.
ISM’S Item Number 9 (California and Washington)
Brian Kniveton has been working on his personal labor of love throughout 2009 and has chosen to continue filming into 2010 as part of the Stillwater Project. No doubt, many flatland skimboarders have seen Kniveton's past works and are eager to see what magic he has recorded but remember that all good things come to those who wait or is it all good things are worth the wait? Regardless, with the talent jam packed into his local scene of Sacramento, you got to know that there isn’t going to be a shortage of nastiness being thrown down on HD.
End Result (Flatland Skim Double DVD)
One hell of a double feature. KYDA’s and ISM’s calibration will be a first of its kind, with schedule film sessions, and a disregard for the small time politics that are involved with flatland skimboarding. The focus will be on the sport, the riders and the culture. All skim or beach related companies are encouraged to sponsor the project, which hopefully will not only allow the filmmakers the chance to really get creative but to spawn a much needed sense of community in the sport.
